Magnolia Card Set

I saw this adorable card set holder made by fellow Demo, Lisa Freeman, and I had to make one! Hers had a handle so it resembles a purse. I left the handle off mine, and it is still so stinkin' cute! I'm still making card sets to give out to friends, so this will be another one. So far, I've made and given 6 of them. I have this one ready to go and one half way done. How many more? Hmmm maybe 3 more ought to do it. Y'all, they have been so delighted to get them! It's not a holiday, it's not their birthday, I just wanted to brighten their day and give them something that they can send to others to brighten other's days. With our country in such turmoil this year, I think every little thing we can do for others is so needed.

Here are the measurements:

2 pieces of 7-1/2 x 4-3/4 Mossy Meadow cardstock score @ 1-1/2 on long side

2 pieces of 5-3/4 x 4-1/2 DSP

acetate box cut in half: To cut keep it flat and cut at 4 inches and cut off smallest flaps then assemble the box. Adhere clear box at the scoreline NOT the bottom ONLY the back. Use three pieces of Tear & Tape to adhere to cardstock and the large flap to keep it shut.

1 piece of 4-3/4 x 4-1/2 Mossy Meadow cardstock scored @ 1-1/2 and 3 on the 4-1/2 side then dry emboss

Lisa made a video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8YSW8U6QGg&feature=youtu.be

The outside of the holder/box/could be purse
It opens to reveal two half acetate boxes full of cards. It can hold 8-10 cards and envelopes
I got this idea from Leslie Jenra, and thought it was the prettiest layout!

Adapting Tools & Comforting Scriptures

With Pinterest and blogs, we are bombarded with lots of inspiration when we get ready to make a greeting card. When you look at a pretty card and think, "oh but I don't have that die, or that embellishment" etc. don't give up, IMPROVISE. I've got an example to show you just what I mean. I saw Tammy Wilson's pretty card on Pinterest, improvised with what I had and voila, I very similar card, but still pretty. You can see Tammy's card here https://stampspaperscissors.com/2020/06/25/in-good-taste-technique-tutorial/

Can you spot the differences? First of all, you probably see the butterfly, which was not an intentional difference. Well, as happens to most of us at some time or another, I was finished with the card, and bam, I drug it across an open stamp pad and smeared ink on it:( So the flutterby was added to cover it up. lol!

  • I didn't have the same die, but I did have the retired Darling Doily, which gave the same lacy feel.
  •  I also didn't have the leaf embellishment, so I made my own with what I DID have. I looked for all the leaf dies I had and one of the smallest was one in the Rooted in Nature Bundle. I cut it out of the woodgrain pattern from In Good Taste DSP. Then, I cut 4 more leaves from Sahara Sand cardstock and glued them together to make a fatter embellishment. Then to define the veins in the leaf, I used my Water Painter and some Crumb Cake ink.
  • I also didn't have a Gray Granite Stampin' Blend, so used my Water Painter again with some Gray Granite ink and my pokey tool to splatter across the Shimmery White cardstock. It looked so pretty I also added some Rococo Rose ink splatters!
What about the Scriptures? The other photo shows the inside of my card. You can see a piece of scripture that I put on the inside cover of all of my cards. As a Demo, I sell most of my stamp sets when they retire, but any of them that contain scripture, I KEEP. I have Trust God, Rose Winder, and Hold on to Hope. I also bought a couple of stamp sets from Divinity Designs.

Herringbone Technique

 Herringbone Technique

Positive Thoughts Stamp Set

Tasteful Touches and Daisy Lane Stamp Sets

You can use any Designer Series Paper that you like with this technique. I wanted a very simple abstract design, so I chose the Artistry Blooms DSP. I love the bright colors, and chose to create a card in cool colors and then one in warm colors.

For stamp sets, I selected collage style stamps that are small so that the herringbone pattern would still be the star of the show.

I used Adhesive Sheets to cover the cardstock before applying strips of DSP. You can also use Tear & Tape Adhesive, or other double-sided tape runner. The point is to cover the entire piece of cardstock with adhesive, not glue.

I like strips of paper that are 1/4 inch wide, but this technique can be done with all sizes of strips, and even varying the strip sizes on the same project. Since a card is a small platform, I chose to use a smaller size strip.

You can draw the three lines on your cardstock, but I just place DSP strips directly on cardstock. Begin by placing three strips of cardstock as show below. Then make ‘V’ shapes of two strips that match as you fill in the quadrants.

For the first layer, I used the largest Stitched Rectangle die, which is roughly 5-1/8 x 3-3/4 inches. After adhering the strips to make the herringbone pattern, I used the third from the largest die, which measures roughly 3 x 4-3/8 inches. I love the nice finished edges these dies provide, but you can certainly cut with your paper trim and have plain edges.

Remember in the video how I showed the outside edges of the pattern after I cut it out with the stitched rectangle dies? I had so much fun playing around with those cool looking pieces!

First, I cut the 'frame of leftovers" in half.

On this one, I used that half, then a straight piece to fill in along the bottom. This created a frame. Tasteful Touches Stamp Set

On this card, I used the "leftover frame" AND the finished herringbone piece. I used the diecuts from the Beautiful World bundle.

Card Set Gifts

Many of friends send cards to friends and family, especially now during these difficult times. So I decided that I would make little card sets to give to them. I stamped a verse and an image on the right inside as usual, And I also included a scripture stamped on the left. I ran out of the clear acetate boxes that I usually use for card sets, so I improvised I just simply made a belly band out of cardstock put a stamped image and/or die cuts on it and attached it around the set of cards and envelopes.
