Magnolia Lane

You'd think Stampin' Up! made this stamp set just for me! lol I simply adore magnolia trees and naturally, I named my blog for them!

I first made one of these purses in 2015, and you can see the original post with tutorial here: https://scmagnolia.blogspot.com/2015/12/purse-power.html
These lovely purses can be made with any of Stampin' Up!'s beautiful designer series papers. The double sided designs are perfect for these purses, as both sides will be visible. The purfect size for small gifts or even a set of cards, these purses are sure to be a big hit!

In my mind's eye, I can see a lovely purse done with the new Woven Threads DSP, and some Woven Threads Trim. That trim could be used at the bottom or around the top, to give it Bohemian flair. Or how about a purse that looks as if it were painted in Monet's garden? The Perennial Essence DSP would be so lovely! Cewan't wait to see the pretty new papers? I can arrange a sneak peek, watch upcoming blog posts!

Materials
Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP)
Coordinating cardstock
Good Morning Magnolia stamp set (for card set if desired)
Magnolia Memory Thinlits (for paper flower if desired)
Tear and Tape adhesive
Gold Faceted Gems
Brads

Measurements
  • outside of purse: 2 pieces of DSP, 3-3/4” x 12” and 3-3/4” x 5”
  • base box for the purse: card stock 7” x 3”
  • edging for top and bottom of purse: 1/2” x 6-1/2” and 1/2” x 10” joined together (you will need 3 sets of these)
  • two cardstock handles: 8” x 1”
  1. The base box for the purse is 7” x 3.” Score at ½ inch on all four sides, then cut notches and glue sides so that the overlap is on the outside and the inside is smooth.
  2. Join together the two pieces of DSP, making one large piece. You will have an overlap of ¼ inch, the same width as the Tear and Tape.
  3. Place Tear and Tape on one end and all along the bottom. Then remove the backing from the Tear and Tape a little at a time to attach to the base box. At the end, join the ends together.
  4. For the edging on the purse, you will need three sets of cardstock strips for the tope, bottom, and inside top. Join one 1/2” x 6-1/2” piece to a 1/2” x 10” piece with Tear and Tape, then do the same for the other two sets.
  5. Remove the backing from the edging pieces a little at a time and apply to the top and bottom of the purse. Do not do the inside top yet!!
  6. On each of the handles, mark 1-1/2” from each end with a pencil, then score in half at ½ inch between pencil marks leaving the two ends un-scored. Next, round corners of each end, and punch oles for the brads 1/2” from each end.
  7. Attach the edging to the inside top of the purse to cover the back of the brads:)
  8. Attach handles to purse with brads. Punch holes for brads about 2-1/2” apart and be sure to remain on the outside edging. Attach Faceted Gems or other decoration to the top of the brads if desired for decoration.
  9. If desired, add a paper flower to the purse made from the Magnolia Memory Thinlits.
