I took four years of French in school. With no way to practice or immerse myself in the language, my knowledge never flourished to say the least. Although I faked my way through reading French menus and giving some type of vague directions to a cab driver in St. Martin, my vocabulary is not very extensive. I can ask about the weather, tell you my name, ask where the train station and bathrooms are. I do remember a surprising number of nouns. Nothing remarkable, just random things. My husband and I went shopping at a large mall this morning and one of the ladies who waited on us had the most marvelous French accent! I desperately wanted to talk with her just so I could hear her lovely voice. So what word came to my mind??? Jolie fleurs, or pretty flowers. Big sigh.. I'm afraid I made no great impression on this Frenchwoman. Oh well C'est la vie.
hmmmm where did that phrase come from? Somewhere deep in the cob webs of my mind no doubt.
